No calls but orcas nearby

Not sure what to think at this point. We just got two reports of orcas (large group) heading west this morning in Johnstone Strait and through Pearse Passage. Slack tide to the ebb was at 7:20am. Thanks to Wendy,Bill and Barb for the reports. The OL audience began to hear calls as early as 3am so perhaps a group came in and then left "quickly". We finally picked up on calls just after 8am on the Flower Island station which might mean they are continuing to the west for now.To add to all of this, we thought we heard very distant transient calls around 11:38pm. This is a lot of sudden activity!

Another quick update, Bill MacKay in Port McNeill says they can see the whales heading to Sointula.

No orcas present.

The MacKays went out this morning and followed the big group to Pulteney Point (western tip of Malcolm Island) at 10 am. They saw 25+ whales spread out in about 6 groups. G38 was there. They only heard G clan calls when the whales were vocal. Thanks Donna and Bill, this was a great report! When they left, the whales were still west bound , headed toward the Port Hardy airport. Thanks also to the vigilant OL'ers who heard the calls in the morning. Thank goodness we were streaming!
